The Tree of life- Shea Karite Nut Tree
History
The women of West Africa have been using Shea butter for centuries. Shea butter originates from the Karite Nut Tree. The
Karite Nut tree can live for 300 years, and generally begins to bear fruit within 20 years. Almost all parts of the tree have
some practical use; the bark is an ingredient used in medicines against childhood illness, minor scrapes and cuts. The shell of
the nut repels mosquitoes and the fruity part of the nut, yields a vegetable oil that can be used in soap-making, cooking,
skin and hair care. Shea butter is produced and harvested by the women in the African countries of Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana,
Ivory Coast, and Gambia.
What is Shea Butter?
The botanical name: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) is a fatty extract from the kernel of the fruit, and when crushed
by hand yields a vegetable oil. Unrefined Shea Butter is a superior moisturizer, with a vast number of proven healing
properties, which is due to the high levels of vegetable fats found in Shea butter.
It is commonly used in the treatment of eczema, blemishes, sunburns, skin allergies, rashes, burns, wounds, severely dry
skin, capillary circulation, wrinkles, skin cancer prevent, and to promote cell regeneration. Shea butter contains natural
anti-inflammatory agents and Vitamin E that is ideal for healthy skin. Also, may be used as a sunscreen agent, due to the
cinnamic acid, which acts as natural protection against sun exposure. Studies have shown that when used daily, this
